Allan McKay has posted a nice video explaining how effects from the God of War: Ascension ‘From Ashes’ trailer were created, originally recorded at last year’s Mindtrek conference.
Most of the VFX for the spot, which shows everything that Kratos touches turning to ashes, were handled by Imaginary Forces, with key ash effects created by McKay and Desiree Lunsford at Catastrophic FX.
In the video, McKay explains how 3ds Max plugins thinkingParticles and FumeFX were used to generate ash particles, and the results rendered in Krakatoa and V-Ray. The spot was composited in After Effects.
