Tutorial: sculpting realistic clouds with fluids

3ds Max effects guru Allan McKay has posted a neat little tutorial on sculpting realistic clouds in FumeFX.

The 45-minute video, which focuses on a rapid-rendering workflow for real-world production, discusses how to create both static and fully dynamic clouds that can interact with objects and other forces.

Fun fact
In a nice aside, at one point in the video, McKay admits that he has an extra motivation for creating results that are quick to render: he’s supposed to be at the pub, and he’s running late.

It doesn’t stop him from recording another 15 minutes of training, but we imagine it’s a sentiment that a lot of VFX artists will empathise with.
