Adobe preparing a bid to buy The Foundry?

The Foundry’s 2015 demo reel. According to UK newspaper The Telegraph, Adobe is preparing a bid to buy the VFX software firm from current owners the Carlyle Group, which is looking for offers of £150 to £200m.

Adobe is “understood to be preparing a bid” for The Foundry, according to a story on UK broadsheet newspaper The Telegraph’s website.

The Telegraph reports that private equity firm The Carlyle Group, which bought a majority stake in The Foundry in 2011, “is said to be looking for offers of between £150m and £200m” (around $288m to $304m).

Rumour or fact?
The story does not name any sources, and contains several factual errors about The Foundry’s technology – the latter probably due to having been written by one of the paper’s financial journalists.

However, its key claims are certainly possible: The Carlyle Group is thought to be looking to sell The Foundry this year, and Adobe is one of the few graphics technology firms large enough to be able to buy it.

We approached The Foundry, who declined to comment.
