Eye candy: impressive new Battlefield 3 trailer

EA has released an impressive new trailer for its upcoming Windows FPS, Battlefield 3, carefully flagged up as “actual gameplay footage on pre-alpha software”.

The game, developed by DICE, features a lot of interesting tech, including the ANT character animation framework, previously used on EA Sports titles – but what really caught our attention was the lighting. There are some very atmospheric high-contrast environments and lovely volumetric effects on display.

Oh, and guns. Lots of guns.
