Survey reveals average motion graphics salaries

Motion Graphic Design Census has released its report on working conditions and salaries for 2010.

Although described as ‘an unofficial web-based survey’, the data is the result of 5,520 responses from artists in over 45 countries, so we’d imagine it’s broadly accurate.

Among the fascinating factoids available is the discovery that the median income for a freelance animator is 50% higher than one in a staff job. (Interestingly, CG generalists earn the same, regardless of employment status, and freelance compositors earn less on average.)

The survey also includes a complete breakdown of hourly and daily rates charged by its respondents, which should be invaluable when pricing your own work.
