Computerinsel releases PhotoLine 21

Thursday, July 12th, 2018 | Posted by Jim Thacker

Computerinsel has released PhotoLine 20, the latest update to its sub-$100 image-editing tool, adding support for scripting, a new lens correction filter, and an auto-save system.

New features: scripting support, lens correction filter
For CG artists, the main change this time round will the support for scripting – on Windows, VBScript; on Mac, AppleScript – to automate common operations, like batch processing images.

There is also a new Lens Correction filter, designed to correct distortion caused by real-world camera lenses: as well as spatial distortion, it removes vignetting and chromatic aberration.

On importing an image, the filter is automatically applied in a separate layer to the raw image, with PhotoLine selecting a suitable lens from its database; if none match, it makes the layer invisible.

The other major new features are aimed more at graphic designers, with support for multiple-page layouts, and the option to recolorise imported vector patterns directly in the Color Editor.

Workflow changes: more flexible image import and layer handling, new auto-save system
Workflow changes include the option to reference the external file rather than embedding it when importing an image, reducing the size of PhotoLine project files.

Layer behaviour has also been updated: it is now possible to copy and paste adjustment layers; and selection tools now work with all layer types, not just image layers.

There is also now an auto-save system, with PhotoLine automatically saving a copy of the active document after a user-configurable time interval.

Other than that, it’s mainly smaller tweaks and UI changes: you can find a full list via the link below.

Pricing and availability
PhotoLine 21 is available now for Windows XP+ and Mac OS X 10.6+. It costs €59 (around $69).
