Get eight free building parts from KitBash3d’s Gothic kit

Interesting new online architectural asset store KitBash3d has made eight readymade building parts from its Gothic kit available to download for free.

The sample comprises eight of the kit’s original 60 modular parts, intended for designing a detailed Gothic cathedral, including windows, arches, buttresses and towers.

The models, which are untextured, but which have UVs already set up, are provided in FBX and OBJ formats, and as a Maya scene file.

Resources for concept artists and matte painters, created by concept artist and matte painters
Launched earlier this month, KitBash3d provides sets of themed model parts intended to help matte painters, illustrators, environment artists and VFX artists generate detailed 3D buildings more quickly.

As far as we’re aware, it’s the first online store geared towards kitbashing and concept work, rather than providing complete architectural 3D scenes, and it comes with a strong industry pedigree.

Top art director Ash Thorp describes the site as “the resource we’ve all been waiting for”, while co-founder Maxx Burman is himself a veteran matte painter whose credits include Iron Man 3 and Game of Thrones.

The assets have already been used to create concept art by Nick Hiatt, art director on Star Wars Episode 7.

As well as the Gothic cathedral, KitBash3d currently has Art Deco, Arabic and Neo-Tokyo kits for sale, each totalling between 2 million and 4 million polygons of geometry, and priced at $199.
