Gnomon ships Creating a Sci-Fi Alleyway

The Gnomon Workshop has released Creating a Sci-Fi Alleyway, a detailed guide to creating believable CG environments recorded by Infinity Ward senior environment artist Devon Fay.

Explore environment creation workflows: from reference gathering to rendering and post
During the video, which runs for over six hours, Fay explores the entire environment-creation process, from gathering reference images and blocking out the scene, to modelling, lighting, texturing and rendering.

The workflow uses a range of industry-standard tools, including ZBrush, Maya, V-Ray and Photoshop.

In addition to covering software techniques, Fay discusses artistic issues, including the importance of composition, set dressing and storytelling in creating a detailed, immersive environment.
