Eye candy: Epic’s Showdown Unreal Engine 4 VR demo

Epic Games has released Showdown, its bullet-time-inspired VR demo scene – a non-interactive video of which you can see above – for free, including its entire Unreal Engine 4-based content library.

Originally unveiled for the reveal of the Oculus Crescent Bay prototype at Oculus Connect 2014, Showdown is a “cinematic action scene with guns blazing, a fiery car barreling past, and a colossal mech enemy”.

The debris and explosions look a bit chunky, but the lighting and shading are nice, and there are plenty of in-your-face moments to help loosen the bowels of anyone watching the demo on a VR headset.

The interactive demo is compatible with Oculus DK2 and up, Sony’s Project Morpheus and the SteamVR HTC Vive. You can download it from the Learn tab of the Epic Games launcher.
