The Gnomon School of Visual Effects is hosting Animal, a weekend event featuring talks and demonstrations from many of the entertainment industry’s leading artists, at its Hollywood HQ from 1-3 May 2015.

Blending “art, nature and conservation”, the event is free to attend, but is being run in order to encourage donations to support the work of the California Wildlife Center.

Two days of talks from top concept artists and wildlife illustrators
The presentations themselves take place on Saturday 2 May and Sunday 3 May, and feature concept artists and illustrators including Terryl Whitlatch, Neville Page, Laurel Austin and Jerad Marantz.

In addition, the weekend will provide the opportunity to meet local wildlife volunteers, “and even an animal or two”, with the goal of raising awareness through inspiration and education.

Free accompanying gallery show
The talks are accompanied by an exhibition of the speakers’ artwork at the adjoining Gnomon Gallery, launched with a free opening reception from 8pm to 11pm on Friday 1 May.

The event is being co-organised by Art Explorers, whose co-founder, animator and concept artist Manny Carasco, will be speaking on the Sunday.

Entry is free, but seating is available on a first-come, first served basis. You can RSVP via the link below.

Updated 1 May: If you can’t make it to LA in person, Gnomon will now be livestreaming the artist sessions from the event. The stream starts at 9am PDT on Saturday 2 May.
