Hollywood Camera Work releases Shot Designer app

Per Holmes of Hollywood Camera Work has released Shot Designer, a new app for blocking complex scenes.

Shot Designer enables directors and DoPs to create animated shot diagrams, complete with set floorplans and light positions, and comes with an integrated shot list that “writes itself”.

A real tool, not a toy
Holmes claims that Shot Designer is “a real tool, not a flaky app”, and the website comes with testimonials from the likes of Clint Reagan of Halon Entertainment, who recently supervised previz work on Prometheus.

At the minute, it’s largely a tool for creating 2D diagrams (you can also integrate storyboard frames), but an option to render your blocking in 3D is expected “within six months”.

Shot Designer is available for iOS 4.0+, Android 2.2+, Mac OS X 10.6+ and Windows. It’s free to use for a single scene; or $19.99 for the Pro edition, which also gives you file-management tools and PDF/Excel export.

Anyone purchasing the mobile version of the Pro edition also gets the Windows and OS X versions for free.
