The Foundry has released Mari 1.5, a significant update to its 3D paint package.
The realism of the viewport display has been improved in Mari 1.5, with the addition of real-time shadows and support for cube maps, facilitating painting textures in context.
Interoperability with other standard tools has also been boosted, with the option to handle patch-based textures in Maya “with a single click” and import support for Photoshop’s .abr custom brush format.
Other new features include support for overlapping UVs; mirroring in the paint buffer for symmetrical painting; and normal mapping functionality, including the power to paint normal maps from bump or height maps.
Mari 1.5 is available now for Windows and Linux, price $1,980.
