ScriptAttack releases BonyFace 3.0 Extended

BonyFace 2.7. Version 3.0 of the 3ds Max plugin, released this week, improves the rigging of the eyes and jaw.

ScriptAttack has released the free Basic edition of BonyFace 3.0, the latest update to its 3ds Max facial rigging and animation system.

BonyFace enables users to create a bone-based facial rig, complete with skin weighting, in minutes.

The script uses a system of splines to ‘map’ the face, automatically generating the rig and helping the user to set up direct and indirect ‘soft’ controls. The rigs it generates can be shared with vanilla 3ds Max users.

New features in version 3.0 include an improved rig for the eyelids and jaw, and a reset button for the controls.

BonyFace 3.0 is compatible with 3ds Max 2008 and above. The Extended edition, which adds the option to quickly generate phoneme morph targets and support for animation layers, is expected in the next few weeks. It has an MSRP of $999, but can be pre-ordered for $399, which also gives you access to version 2.7.

Updated 26 April: BonyFace 3.0 Extended has just been released, also improving the rig for the eyes, mouth and jaw. You can find a full list of new features and demo videos on the ScriptAttack website.
