The SketchUp development team has finally squashed the software’s infamous ‘shadow bug’.
The bug, which results in highly distracting strobing when the camera moves inside a shadow volume, has been present in the software since volumetric shadow rendering was introduced in version 1.1, back in 2001.
Ten years later, the team has finally come up with a new algorithm that fixes the problem, and bless them, they’re quite excited about it. We think setting the video demo to the strains of the 1812 Overture was a particularly nice touch.
The bugfix is included as part of the current SketchUp 8 maintenance release.
