What does a solitaire-based RPG have in common with VR apps, abstract visuals and a lot of AAA fighters?
Answer: they’re all created in Unreal Engine – and more specifically, they’re all featured on Epic Games’ new Unreal Engine Sizzle Reel, released to coincide with the start of GDC 2016.
The reel covers a lot of ground in under four minutes, from bizarre card-based RPG Solitairica to the likes of Street Fighter V, Tekken 7 and Mortal Kombat XL.
There is also a nice selection of indie titles, including The Molasses Flood’s beautiful survival/rafting/crafting adventure The Flame in the Flood, and some non-games work, most produced by arch viz star Koola.
And with VR already emerging as one of the key themes of GDC this year, there are a smattering of VR apps, although with the Oculus Rift still not quite shipping, the roster is padded out with Epic’s own Bullet Train demo.
All in all, it’s a varied and pacily edited reel, and a fine way to spend a coffee break. Check it out above.
