Allegorithmic releases Substance Painter 1.6

Allegorithmic has released Substance Painter 1.6, the latest update to its 3D texture painting software.

It’s primarily a performance and workflow update, so not all of the features shown in the video above are new, although you do get to see the new drag-and-drop workflow in the material layering system.

[Ctrl]-dragging a material in the layer stack now creates a fill layer with a mask, allowing you to paint instantly.

Less tangibly, but equally importantly, the update is designed smooth the process of painting at 4K resolution; and there are 22 new smart materials, including plastic, iron, fabric and steel.

Pricing and availability
Substance Painter 1.6 is available now for Windows and Mac OS X. New licences cost $149 for the Indie edition, for anyone with annual earnings of under $100K, and $590 for the Pro edition.
