Eye candy: Blender’s Cycles demo reel

The Blender Foundation has posted a demo reel for Cycles, the GPU-accelerated raytrace render engine introduced in Blender 2.61 and now available under an Apache open-source licence.

As well as the Blender open movies and animated shorts like Caminandes, there are some nice commercials from the likes of Loica.

The commercial work doesn’t have the strength in depth of an Autodesk or Foundry reel, so expect to see technical tests and still images in there too, but there’s still a huge range of imagery on show.

And, you have to keep reminding yourself, everything here was rendered entirely in open-source software. It’s pretty impressive stuff.
