The Gnomon School of Visual Effects is offering a chance to meet veteran games and VFX concept artists Justin Sweet and Vance Kovacs as they discuss their latest project, art book Eclipse: The Well and the Black Sea.

The two will share some of their recent character and creature design work, followed by an extended audience Q&A, at Gnomon’s Hollywood headquarters on Tuesday, January 7th, 2014 from 7.00-9.30 pm.

From Black Isle games to Batman movies
Justin and Vance started their careers in 1994 as concept artists at Interplay Productions where they shared an office for five years in the legendary Black Isle Division, developing ideas for video games.

Afterwards they began working as concept artists in the film industry, individually amassing a variety of credits including Thor 2, Green Lantern, Men in Black 3, 47 Ronin, The Avengers and Riddick. Upcoming titles include 300: Rise of an Empire, Dawn of the Planet of The Apes, Noah, and Batman vs. Superman.

The talk and Q&A form part of Gnomon’s regular Headspace series: casual, community-driven events aimed at bringing artists in the entertainment industry together. Entry is free, and on a first-come, first-seated basis.

Vance will also be hosting one of Gnomon’s Weekend Workshops: a chance to learn core art skills in intimate, 3-6 hour sessions. His workshop on Intuitive Color Design takes place on Saturday 1 February.
