Eye candy: The Desolation of Smaug trailer

Warner Bros has posted the official trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, featuring a lot of bits you’ll remember from the book, and quite a few that you won’t.

On the up side, the environments look fantastic, and Peter Jackson and company seem to have found a way to shoehorn in some now obligatory Massive-generated massive crowd scenes.

Also, Orlando Bloom gets to flex his bow and blond wig one more time in a strictly non-canon appearance as Legolas. (That faint humming noise in the background will be J.R.R. Tolkein spinning in his grave.)

On the down side, you don’t get to see much of Smaug, although you do hear him. The big tease.

The Hobbit: This Seems A Lot Longer Than The Original is on release worldwide in December.
