The Gnomon Workshop has released a complete starter guide to Maya 2014, created by leading artist Eric Keller.
Over the course of eight hours of video training, Introduction to Maya 2014 sets out the software’s key tools and introduces the fundamental concepts necessary for an efficient professional workflow.
A complete overview of Maya’s key toolsets
Keller begins by introducing the Maya user interface, before going on to explore modeling, setting up materials, lighting and rendering scenes, and animation.
Along the way, he introduces key toolsets such as the Node Editor and Graph Editor, and explains how to create, manipulate and organize hierarchies, objects, components and cameras.
Keller also explains how to customize the UI in order to make workflow more efficient.
Through his work with scientific visualisation firm Digizyme, he has recently been creating insect models and animations for renowned etymologist and author E O Wilson as part of the Life on Earth iBook project.
