The first demo reel of the Siggraph season has arrived, courtesy of Side Effects’ Houdini customer showcase.
Fluid simulations seem to be a theme this year, both on projects you’d expect (Rhythm & Hues’ Oscar-Winning work on Life of Pi) and those you might not (real-time water in Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception).
Smaller studios also get a look in, including new London facility Electric Theatre Collective, whose GSK spot can be seen threaded through the reel, and Mr. X, which did some good work on Resident Evil: Retribution.
Away from the liquid simulations, there are some nice cinematics from Axis Animation; nice commercials from… a lot of folks, actually; and even cartoon work from DreamWorks and Framestore.
