When I first learned Zack Snyder was directing the new Superman film I couldn’t help but think Warner Bros was trying to overcompensate for the well-intended, but ultimately flawed, Superman Returns.
Whereas Superman didn’t throw a single punch in that film, in this version, he would probably end up punching everything in this one… in super-slow motion.
Well, a new trailer for Man of Steel has arrived today, and I see I don’t have much to worry about.
Yes, this is going to be an explosive action film, and one that all Superman fans have been waiting to see. But it looks like it will do something no other Superman film has done before: show the struggle that Clark Kent has to endure with the powers of a god.
I like the tone and I love the iconic shots Zach Snyder is known for – and no, the lack of red underwear is not bothering me too much.
Man of Steel flies into theaters worldwide on 14 June 2013.
Updated 10 April 2013: Warner Bros has just released the first TV spot for Man of Steel. There are no new shots as far as we can see, but it’s much more compressed, clocking in at just 30 seconds. Watch it above.
