Mocap.nl launches new on-demand capture service

Motion-capture studio Mocap (that’s not a repeat: it’s really what the company is called) has launched a new on-demand custom motion-capture service aimed at small-to-medium sized projects.

Users can submit a storyboard or reference video of the motion they want to capture and the studio will record it with a trained actor, clean up the data and deliver it the next day in a range of standard file formats.

According to Mocap’s Bobby Biondic: “We get a lot of requests for shorts and indie projects [and] even big commercial agencies here in the Netherlands that need a 30-second animation for a TV commercial but find the cost of renting [a] system a bit much for the project.”

Although the service is priced on a per-job basis, Biondic estimates a cost of €200-250 (around $265-330) for five minutes of custom capture. The service uses an Xsens inertial capture system.

The company also runs an online store offering stock mocap clips, priced from €25-55 ($33-73).
