Former Toy Story concept artist tops iPad app charts

Robots co-creator and former Toy Story concept artist William Joyce is topping the iPad app sales charts with his new eBook, The Fantastic Flying Books of Morris Lessmore.

Created by Joyce’s company, Moonbot Studios, the eBook has steadily risen up the rankings since its release on 31 May, finally reaching top spot yesterday.

Joyce has straddled traditional and digital media throughout his career – as well as working with Pixar and Blue Sky Studios, he wrote and illustrated the Roly Poly Olie series of children’s books – and the new app is an appropriately affectionate homage to the days of print from the era of interactive everything.

And it’s charming, too. Although definitely a kids’ production, the sight of the Buster Keaton-esque title character was enough to soften even our flinty journalistic hearts.
