fmx 2011: Disney releases new open-source tools

Disney has released two new in-house technologies as part of its new open-source initiative.

Reposado is “a set of tools written in Python that replicate the key functionality of Mac OS X Server’s Software Update Service”, and looks more likely to appeal to sysadmins, but SeExpr is “a simple expression language that we use to provide artistic control and customization to our core software”, and seems likely to have uses in procedural shading and simulation control.

The tools were announced at fmx last week, along with the news that Weta’s deep compositing technology will form part of the upcoming OpenEXR 2.0 standard.
