The Foundry has released Mari 1.1, the first version of its new 3D painting tool to run under Windows. A Linux version of the software, originally developed in-house at Weta Digital, was released earlier this year.

In addition to the standard features expected in a professional digital paint package, Mari is optimised for work on very large production assets, and offers tools designed for touch-up work on sequential frames of an animation, along with extensive look-development features.

New features in version 1.1 include:

  • FBX Camera Import
  • TGA Support
  • A Smart Selection Tool
  • Canvas Toolbar
  • Perspective View
  • A Normal Shader
  • Dramatically improved performance

A 15-day day trial can be downloaded from The Foundry’s website, while the DVD that accompanies issue 138 of 3D World magazine will include a special 30-day version, along with video training from The Foundry and SphereVFX. The magazine goes on sale on 16 December.
