VFX breakdown | The Buccaneers | Absolute

Discover how Absolute created a snowy winter landscape for Apple TV+’s The Buccaneers.

For the period drama, an adaptation of the Edith Wharton novel, Absolute shifted 87 shots of a Scottish castle forward in time, transforming footage shot in October into a white Christmas.

The work combined snowy 3D rooftops and trees with matte-painted background landscapes.

Absolute’s 162 VFX shots on the series also included matte paintings of a fictional location, the Duke of Tintagel’s residence, combining details of the real Culzean and Drumlanrig castles.
