Adobe ships Photoshop 23.3

Adobe has released Photoshop 23.3, the latest version of its image-editing and digital painting software.

The update makes in possible to paste text from Illustrator as an editable layer, improves the sky replacement system, and adds support for multithreaded compositing, speeding up compositing up to 250%.

Copy and paste text from Illustrator as editable layers
Workflow improvements in Photoshop 23.3 include the option to copy and paste text layers from Illustrator, Adobe’s vector graphics software, and have them remain as editable layers.

Previously, text was rasterised when pasting it into Photoshop.

Improved edge detection in sky replacements, and changes to handling of cloud documents
The Sky Replacement feature has also been updated, improving the quality of the results when replacing the sky behind thin objects like cables, and reducing halo artifacts when replacing a bright sky with a dark one.

You can find more details about how the new edge enhancement system works here.

Users can also now see cloud documents they have accessed recently in the Recent section of the app home screen; and the cloud is now the default file location when saving using the Save As command.

GPU and multithreaded compositing improves interactive performance on complex documents
In addition, Photoshop now supports GPU compositing, and multithreaded compositing on CPU and GPU.

The changes should improve interactive performance when working on documents with large numbers of adjustment layers, layer masks, blending modes, filters, styles or effects.

According to Adobe, multithreading speeds up compositing “between 100% and 250%”.

Existing Shake Reduction filter removed
However, one feature no longer available in Photoshop 22.3 is the Shake Reduction filter, previously used to remove camera shake from photos automatically, but which has now been removed.

According to Adobe, the filter was “not compatible with newer development platforms”.

Pricing and system requirements
Photoshop 23.3 is available for Windows 10 and macOS 10.15+ on a rental-only basis. In the online documentation, the update is also referred to as the April 2022 release.

Photography subscription plans, which include access to Photoshop and Lightroom, start at $119.88/year. Single-app Photoshop subscriptions cost $31.49/month or $239.88/year.
