Unity Technologies releases Unity 2019 LTS

Unity Technologies has released Unity 2019 LTS, its latest Long Term Support edition of the game engine.

The release, also known as Unity 2019.4, includes all of the features added to the software in Unity 2019.1, Unity 2019.2 and Unity 2019.3, and will continue to receive regular fixes for two years.

No new features, but fixes until mid-2022
Unity’s LTS releases are intended for developers who want to embark on major projects without the risk of needing to update their software in the middle of production.

As a result, Unity 2019 LTS doesn’t have any new features compared to Unity 2019.3: just bugfixes.

It will also continue to receive monthly fixes until mid-2021, including those backported from the upcoming Unity 2020.1 and Unity 2020.2 releases, then monthly updates until mid-2022.

You can read our preview of the five key features for CG artists in Unity 2020.1 here.

There won’t be a Unity 2020.3, incidentally: Unity has now switched to two ‘tech stream’ releases – the ones that add new features – per year, although the frequency of LTS releases themselves remains unchanged.

Pricing and system requirements
Unity 2019 LTS is available for Windows 7+, macOS 10.12.6+ and CentOS 7 and Ubuntu 16.04/18.04 Linux.

Free Personal subscriptions have a non-removable splash screen and can be used by anyone with revenue of up to $100,000/year. Commercial licences are available on a rental-only basis.

Paid Plus and Pro plans cost $40/seat/month and $150/seat/month for an annual subscription paid monthly.
