Chaos Group has released its V-Ray Game Cinematic 2020 reel, a two-minute compilation of the best work created for game trailers and cinematics using the production renderer.
Relive some of V-Ray’s greatest hits, then watch technical breakdowns of newer projects
It’s the first time in years that Chaos Group has released a dedicated cinematics reel, and perhaps as a result, it’s more of a ‘greatest hits’ than a ‘most recent hits’.
In fact, some of the projects are really quite old: there are several clips of Blur Studio‘s 2014 ‘Unity‘ spot for Assassin’s Creed Unity, alongside its most recent work for Elder Scrolls Online: Elsweyr.
However, with a cast list that includes most of the world’s leading cinematics facilities – Digital Domain and Realtime both also feature on the reel – there’s no shortage of eye candy.
Newer material includes Unit Image’s 2018 trailer for God of War (see a technical breakdown here), and Goodbye Kansas Studios’ E3 2019 trailer for Cyberpunk: 2077 (another excellent tech breakdown).
There’s also some great recent-ish work from smaller studios, including Australia’s Plastic Wax – responsible for the 2018 Mortal Kombat 11 trailer – the Netherlands’ Colorbleed and the UK’s Lunar Animation.
