The Gnomon Workshop releases new anatomy tutorial

The Gnomon Workshop has released Anatomy Workshop Volume 7: Anatomy of the Human Leg and Hip, the latest in painter and art instructor Charles Hu’s detailed series of training videos in figure drawing.

The six other titles in the series cover general anatomical principles, the structure of the human skeleton, and the detailed anatomy of the human head, torso and arm.

An essential reference guide to the anatomy of the human leg
In the new tutorial, which clocks in a smidge under four hours, Hu runs through the key skeletal structures of the leg, then breaks down the primary muscle groups seen in anterior, lateral and posterior views.

Particular attention is paid to structures that are challenging to draw, like the knee.

Hu also explores how to identify key structural landmarks in photo reference, and how the motion of the underlying skeletal structure of the leg contributes to gesture and rhythm in figurative drawings.

Gnomon describes the videos as “an essential foundation for producing believable and dynamic figure drawings, either from life or from the imagination”.
