Eye candy: SideFX’s 2017 Houdini reel

SideFX has released its 2017 Houdini customer reel: a three-minute round-up of the best new visual effects, animation and motion graphics projects to have been created using the software.

Broadcast and commercials work from all over the world
Given Houdini’s traditional reputation as a tool for complex effects shots, there are surprisingly few VFX blockbusters, Alien: Covenant and Doctor Strange notwithstanding.

However, there is pretty much the full roll call of broadcast blockbusters, from Game of Thrones to Penny Dreadful, plus nice commercials work from The Mill and Electric Theatre Collective.

There’s also a lot of CG animation, from full-length features like Moana and the upcoming The Emoji Movie to Axis Animation, RealtimeUK and Wargaming.net‘s cinematics.

And as ever, it’s nice to see a range of non-Western studios: by our count, no fewer than six Japanese firms feature this time round, plus the Czech Republic’s UPP and Russia’s Main Road Post.
