CLO Virtual Fashion ships Marvelous Designer 4.5

Marvelous Designer 4.5 adds the option to save multiple character avatars in a single project file. The 3D clothing design tool can also now export animations in FBX format, or as a series of per-frame OBJ files.

CLO Virtual Fashion has released Marvelous Designer 4.5, the latest version of its3D clothing design tool, adding the option to export animations as FBX files or OBJ sequences, and support for multiple avatars.

Increasingly widely used by games and animation studios, the software enables artists to design garments in the same way as real-world clothes, by stitching virtual pattern parts together.

Users can then import a character model in OBJ or Collada format to drape clothing over, then export the result back to a 3D application.

New animation and VFX options
New functionality in version 4.5 includes the option to export FBX files, including the mesh, skeleton and animation data – FBX import was added in version 4.0 – or to export animations as a series of OBJs.

Users can also save multiple avatars in a single project file, which should open up new possibilities for VFX and animation work.

There are also a number of new clothing-creation tools, including options for creating piping on seams and pressing creases in fabric; and a new Superimpose option for creating linings, collars and cuffs.

Pricing and availability
Marvelous Designer 4.5 is available for Windows XP or later and Mac OS X 10.7 or later. The update is free to registered users; a new perpetual licence costs $550, or there are monthly and annual subscription options.
