Boris FX acquires Imagineer Systems

Imagineer Systems’ mocha planar tracking technology. Compositing and editing tools developer Boris FX has just acquired Imagineer, and plans to integrate mocha into its Continuum Complete plugin collection.

Compositing and editing effects tools developer Boris FX has acquired Imagineer Systems, developer of the Academy Award-winning mocha planar tracking system. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Imagineer becomes a wholly owned UK subsidiary of Boris FX, with current CEO John-Paul Smith continuing to head up technical and operations strategy from its Guildford offices. All other current staff will remain in place.

Clear synergies
The acquisition looks like a pretty good fit for both parties, which share users, but don’t produce directly competing products, giving both access to wider developer, technical support and sales networks.

Boris FX now aims to integrate mocha technology directly into Continuum Complete, its collection of VFX filters for Adobe, Apple and Avid software, DaVinci Resolve and Sony Vegas Pro.

The company says that it will continue to support all existing mocha customers, including those using mocha AE CC and mocha HitFilm, part of Adobe Creative Cloud and HitFilm Pro respectively; and foresees no change in license relationships with other Imagineer partners like Quantel, Silhouette and CoreMelt.
