The Gnomon Workshop has released 3D Creature Design: Alien Rock Grubber: a new six-hour masterclass in concept design from Guardians of the Galaxy and The Amazing Spider-Man artist Jerad Marantz.
A complete creature design workflow in ZBrush, KeyShot and Photoshop
The design process for the Rock Grubber begins with loose sketches on paper, which are then scanned into the computer as Marantz discusses traditional and Photoshop techniques for executing a rough concept.
From there, the design is brought into ZBrush and sculpted using a wide range of tools and techniques for both blocking forms and detailing; then textured and posed on a base, before rendering in KeyShot.
Throughout, Marantz shares insights from his own workflow, and discusses how best to present the concept to a client, including creating animated turntables and final Photoshop composites from a range of angles.
