DAZ is making 3D software packages with a total value of over $800 free to download until the end of February.

The offer includes figure-posing app DAZ Studio Pro, veteran landscape-generation tool Bryce and modelling package Hexagon. The 3D Photoshop Bridge plugin for DAZ Studio – part of the Pro edition of the software – is also being made available free for users of other editions.

The recommended retail prices of the four packages are as follows:

DAZ Studio 4 Pro: RRP $429.95
Bryce 7 Pro: RRP $249.95
Hexagon 2.5: RRP $149.95
3D Photoshop Bridge: RRP $199.00

The first three can be downloaded via DAZ’s main free software promotion webpage, while 3D Photoshop Bridge can be downloaded for free via its standard order page.

You need to have registered on the website and signed up for the newsletter, but there don’t seem to be any other conditions. All downloads are also eligible for future free upgrades and update pricing.

Historically, DAZ has made most of its profits from sales of its stock content, regarding software as something of a loss leader – but today’s announcement goes far beyond anything the company has done before. We’ll post more about the thinking behind the giveaway when we’ve spoken to the developer.

Updated 2 October 2015: The original promotion has now expired, but the current version of DAZ Studio can still be downloaded for free. The 3D Bridge for Photoshop is now part of the DAZ Studio product bundle.

Hexagon 2.5 and Bryce 7 Pro are still available from the DAZ 3D website, currently priced at $19.95 each.
