Siggraph 2011: Mudbox’s new Gigatexel engine

A YouTube user has posted a demo of the new Gigatexel engine in Mudbox’s upcoming Advantage Pack, announced this week at Siggraph 2011.

The footage shows textures being painted in real time on a model with “nearly 1,200 2k maps” on a GeForce gaming laptop. Performance looks good, with very little delay before the display resolves after moving or zooming.

The video itself is odder, being filmed partly on a hand-held camera from what looks like a hotel room.

Autodesk has linked to it from The Area, though, so we presume that it must be accurate, if not official – and you do get to see Vancouver Convention Centre in the background, so it’s almost like being at the show…
