Hasbro releases stereo 3D viewer for iPhone

Giant toy manufacturer Hasbro has launched a stereo 3D viewer for iPhone 3G, iPhone 4 and iPod Touch.

The My3D viewer, which looks like a set of kids’ binoculars or a marginally more high-tech version of the old View-Master toys, is a plastic housing into which an iPhone or iPod may be clipped.

The viewer creates separate left-eye and right-eye views of the phone’s screen, generating a stereo effect.

The effect only works with special My3D apps, some of which – like 360° Sharks (seen above) – use the iPhone’s gyroscopic sensor to create what is effectively the world’s lowest-cost immersive 360-degree display.

If you’re over the age of 12, you’re unlikely to want to be seen using one in public, but at $35, MY3D could be an ideal birthday present for the kids (and big kids) in your life.
