Colimo 1.0: adjust materials in renders in real time

Spanish developer Motiva is about to ship Colimo 1.0, its innovative real-time tool for adjusting pre-rendered images. The software enables users to modify the materials, textures or lights in a rendered image on the fly, using data derived from the original 3D scene.

According to the product website, Colimo can handle raytraced reflections and refractions, and colour bleeding; and is fully GPU accelerated.

In addition to the base render itself, the software requires an additional render pass generated in either modo 501 or via a special mental ray shader – meaning, firstly, that it is possible for clients to modify renders without needing the original 3D data; and secondly, that the software is compatible with modo, 3ds Max, Maya and Softimage, although the process is only automated in the former two apps.

Motiva is working on compatibility with Cinema 4D, SketchUp, Blender and Thea Render.

The software is available for €79 until Christmas day, when version 1.0 is officially released. After that, the price rises to €139.
