The Gnomon Workshop has released Digital Painting in Photoshop, a guide to core painting skills for concept art, matte painting and illustration, recorded by Fantastic Beasts artist Dave Neale.

An essential guide to digital painting skills for concept art, illustation and matte painting
In the workshop, which comprises over three hours of video training, Neale sets out the foundations of professional-level digital painting in Photoshop, including the key tool settings, menus and shortcuts.

Neale begins by revealing how to set up an efficient workspace, and how to use Photoshop Actions to automate workflow.

He then moves on to demonstrate how to use core features of Photoshop including the Pen Tool, selections, Adjustment Layers, Layer Styles, masks, filters, and the Transform tools.

Neale also provides his personal tips for tackling digital painting projects, and provides a complete walkthrough of his own process for organising images for presentation to clients.
