Discover the art of invisible visual effects

Gnomon has announced An Evening with Zero VFX: The Art of Invisible Visual Effects – a free two-hour event both introducing the work of the studio and providing a primer on creating invisible effects for movies.

The event will take place at the Gnomon School of Visual Effects’ Hollywood campus on Wednesday 6 April, and will also be broadcast free on the school’s Livestream channel.

If you follow our Facebook feed, you may have seen Zero VFX’s showreel (above), or some of its breakdowns of VFX shots from movies like Johnny Depp crime flick Black Mass or boxing drama Southpaw.

Rather than creating creatures or spacecraft, the studio specialises in the subtle visual changes necessary to support the plot of a movie, like extending sets digitally, or changing seasons from the live footage.

It’s painstaking, meticulous work, and during the Gnomon presentation, VFX supervisor Rob Nederhorst will explain the process of creating such ‘invisible effects’ in detail.

Free to attend, but register online in advance
An Evening with Zero VFX takes place at Gnomon’s Hollywood campus from 7.30-9.30pm PDT on Wednesday 6 April 2016. The event is free to attend, but you’ll need to register online in advance.
