Video: the Expresii digital ink simulation system

Computer graphics researcher Nelson Chu has posted a nice video of Expresii: his new brush-and-ink-simulation system due to be unveiled publicly at Siggraph Asia 2013 later this month.

The demo shows some incredibly realistic-looking flowing and blending effects, including the use of a Wacom Cintiq with a custom tilt sensor to enable ink to ‘run’ under gravity as the display is tilted.

Expresii is a successor to Chu’s MoXi technology, developed in 2000, and subsequently licensed by Adobe. The software is currently in closed alpha, and is being developed primarily on Windows.
