Rockstar and Team Bondi’s period investigate-’em-up L.A. Noire received a lot of praise for the detail (some would say Uncanny Valley levels of detail) of its facial animation when it was released in 2011.
Now Depth Analysis, the company behind the facial mocap technology that powered the work, has published a blooper reel of outtakes and fluffed lines from the recording sessions, run through the game engine.
The results are still as Uncanny as ever, but definitely goofy rather than creepy, as Aaron Staton and his fellow actors try, and fail, to tackle such tongue-twisters as “I really thought that hobo did it”, “I’ll kill the son-of-a-bitch”, and many others too garbled to mention.
Fans of facial nuances should also check out the excellent eyebrow work at 02:00.
