Technical artist Teck Lee Tan has released FlowMap Painter, an interesting free work-in-progress tool for painting flow maps for games engines.
FlowMap Painter comes out of work on a vertex painter for Unity, but has been released as a standalone app.
The software provides the option to paint fluid flow direction and velocity into a custom 2D texture, using a few simple brush modes, including Pinch/Inflate and Vortex.
The tool, which is described as being very much a project in development (endearingly, Teck Lee Tan says he aims to write a new UI that “isn’t as fuck-ugly” as the present one), is available for Windows and Mac OS X.
