Eye candy: Stadium UK

If you live outside the UK, you may be lucky enough not to hear the word ‘Olympics’ in every second news bulletin. The down side is that you may not have seen this little gem of an animation.

Directed by Passion Pictures’ Pete Candeland, best known for his work on the Gorillaz’ music videos, the ‘Stadium UK’ trailer is being used across the BBC’s TV, radio and digital content for the London 2012 Olympics.

In Candeland’s hands, what could have been standard live-action clips with a sheen of motion graphics becomes a charmingly stylised full-CG animation, showing the whole of the British Isles as the venue for Olympic sports.

An extended 160-second version of the trailer will screen on Passion Pictures’ website on 27 July, the opening night of the games. Worth seeking out, we think.
