Eye candy: Exoids

In the slimelight: Meni Tsirbas’s latest short sees cyborg slug Gus Nitrous face off against the sinister Exoids.

An epic battle with giant killer robots? Old hat. An epic battle with giant killer robots during a hyper-kinetic car chase? Seen it. An epic battle during a hyper-kinetic car chase in which the protagonist is a cyborg slug?

Okay, that one is new, actually.

And that, in a nutshell, is Exoids, the latest collaboration between Gnomon Studios and director Meni Tsirbas. The animated short, the trailer for which can be seen above, shows a high-speed car chase between cyber-enhanced slug Gus Nitrous and his sinister robotic adversaries, set in a post-apocalyptic future.

A loose riff on Tsirbas’s 2000 short Ray Tracey in Full Tilt, Exoids was conceived by the Battle for Terra director and created by students from the Gnomon School of Visual Effects.

The short is the start of a new series of collaborations between Tsirbas and Gnomon Studios. More details can be found on the Exoids website, which also includes making-of material and an interview with the director.
