Are these the world’s top 100 CG schools?

Part of Animation Career Review’s list of the world’s top 100 animation, gaming and design schools.

Animation Career Review has posted its list of the world’s top 100 CG schools.

The list officially covers animation, gaming and design, but we assume that you can take it as read that it applies to employability in other VFX job roles.

How the rankings are arrived at is a little less clear. According to the blurb, the list was compiled “via a mixture of school reviews, industry-reviewed lists like the Princeton Review, and via a survey of the animation industry professionals and recruiters from companies like Pixar, J.J. Sedelmaier and DreamWorks”.

Better coverage for the US?
Without knowing exactly who was surveyed, it’s difficult to know how representative the results are likely to be: they agree broadly with our own anecdotal experience, but they seem a bit skewed towards the big US studios.

Although a lot of overseas colleges do appear in the list, we were surprised to see France’s Supinfocom only placed at 81 behind a lot of the US state universities, for example.

As with all of these qualitative surveys, it’s perhaps better to regard the list as a general round-up of the best schools around, and not worry too hard about the exact positions.

For which reason, we’re not going to reveal here which school came in at number one. Just click the link below and check it out for yourself.
