Discover the top 20 events in the CG industry in 2011

CGSociety has just posted its retrospective of 2011, featuring the most significant 20 events in the CG industry last year, as voted for by visitors to its forums.

The list spans movies, games, cinematics, software releases (not to mention the death of Steve Jobs), so it’s probably best to treat it as a talking point rather than absolute scientific fact, but it’s a good overview of what ‘felt’ cool this year (Tintin, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Skyrim, Battlefield 3, and so on).

It’s interesting to see free software placing so highly in the list, though: the now-Pixologic-owned Sculptris makes it in at 16, while Blender 2.6 manages a very impressive fourth place.

As ever, we won’t spoil the surprise by saying what made it to number one in the list. (And no, it’s none of the things we’ve mentioned above.)
