UK game development magazine ‘Develop’ has posted some initial thoughts from game developers about the iPad. Unfortunately, not as rosy as one might think.
Brian Greenstone, CEO of Pangea Software was quoted in the article to say, “[The iPad's processor is] a mobile chip, and not really designed for such a high resolution screen. That means it’s a little bit fill rate limited – if you’ve got a lot of overlapping 3D models and fog or a complex environment like a lot of games, it brings the iPad to its knees.”
The challenges aren’t insurmountable, but definitely some hurdles to overcome.

While the original articles covers a number of points to make the call out on this website a “iPad had problems” type article is a bit much.
We are talking about a mobile processor here. The complaints are things such as, “has trouble with multiple overlapping 3d models and fog” or “complex environments” are a little disingenuous. When compared to what? A desktop?
This is a tablet. It is not meant to replace a laptop with a beefy processor. It does a lot of things very well but if you are buying it to run highly complex 3d graphics on you are deluded. I am certainly not expecting to run Maya on it.

@Anim8me2 I really think you hit the head of the nail with your comment “This is a tablet. It is not meant to replace a laptop”, people need to come to the realisation on what the iPad was developed for…. I have seen so many articles about how it won’t do this or look at this app to make it do that. Accept what an iPad is and move on… it is not meant to be your mobile studio.

I agree is an iPad but the idiot of Steve jobs said that it would run games just as you were running it on a desktop or a Play Station or a Wii or an Xbox. I think we all know it’s not a computer but Steve Jobs likes to mislead people with his BS. It’s a mobile device or in other words an oversized iPhone with a lot of restrictions and people should use it just for that surfing the web, chating etc.
It’s just a device to make people spend money on something that is useless.
