Tutorial: Creating Fantasy Illustrations with Procreate

The Gnomon Workshop has released Creating Fantasy Illustrations With Procreate, an introductory guide to the popular iPad sketching and painting app, recorded by Rafael Sarmento.

The workshop, which provides two hours of video training, is aimed at artists of all ability levels.

Discover how to use Procreate to create professional-quality illustrations on an iPad
The Gnomon Workshop’s first tutorial devoted to creating professional-quality art work on a tablet, Creating Fantasy Illustrations With Procreate reveals how to create a character illustration in iPad app Procreate.

During the videos, Sarmento discusses how to best use Procreate’s tools to sketch ideas for a character, then refine them into a portfolio-quality illustration.

He also explores one of his own personal techniques, ‘Liquify Extravaganza’, using Procreate’s Liquify tool to create intentional artefacts that can be ‘sculpted’ into forms in the final illustration.

As well as how to use Procreate, the workshop covers traditional design principles, including how to bring personality to a character, and how to use composition, tone and colour to create impact in an illustration.

Viewers of the workshop can download Sarmento’s final high-res illustration in PSD format, along with his custom Procreate brush, Sketchy Sarmento.
